This organisation is founded in November 2017 by a group of eye surgeons who have special training in oculoplastics and oculo-facial surgery

Definition of Oculoplastic Surgery

Oculoplastic surgery is a sub-field in Ophthalmology like Glaucoma or Vitreo-retinal surgery. Oculoplastic surgeons (eye plastic surgeon) are ophthalmologists who received additional training (Fellowship) in this unique subfield involving the aesthetics, plastic and reconstruction of the eyelids, lacrimal system, socket and orbit. 

In the local context, once you graduated from Masters of Surgery in Ophthalmology, you will need to further undergo 3 years of subspecialty Fellowship Training (under the Malaysian MOH Certification of Completion of Fellowhip Training, CCFT) in Oculoplastic surgery. 

It is mainly to deal with pathology around periorbital area.  There are six categories:

  1. Eyelid
  2. Lacrimal
  3. Orbit
  4. Socket
  5. Aesthetic
  6. Facial nerve palsy

Objectives

  1. To advance education, research , and the quality of clinical practice in the fields of aesthetics, plastic and reconstructive surgery specialising in the eyelids, lacrimal system, socket and orbit to amongst the doctors in the country
  2. To interact, share knowledge amongst local Oculoplastic surgeons, regional and international oculoplastic surgeons and societies alike
  3. To serve as a collective voice and representation for all Oculoplastic surgeons in the country.
  4. To create awareness and educate the public, non-ophthalmologist doctors and general ophthalmolgists on oculoplastic surgery services.
